Night of the Arts 2011

It was the night of the year where animals visiting city. Bears, wolves, moose and owls, escapees from a dream world, embark on a visit to Human Cities. South African artist Roger Titley and Airan Berg from Israel bring to life the beasts of Finland’s forests. Anyone and everyone can participate for free, creating their very own animal.

Watch a short video of the event

I arrived late and doesn’t have a chance to create my own animal but at last I got a ready-made butterfly. I was more than happy although I would love to get a moose/ eagle hat or a cool owl.

It was a warm and nice day. Pretty awesome to see all this animals parading around in the city. This is my 3rd year for the Night of the Arts and hopefully more to come. More exciting ones.

Helsinki SideShow Night

Impressively crazy maniac show. The highlight of the show is from Fakir Skolen. The absolute pain solution. Just like a chinese saying “You feel happy when you see others in pain”, this series of act are bloody. WARNING: Not for weak heart!

Juhannus @ Helsinki

Juhannus = Mid-summer in Finland= Public Holiday :P
Mid-summer the longest day light of the year. Sun set around midnight? or never in North Finland. Is kinda of ironic that every year in Helsinki on mid summer it is never sunny. Always will have cloudy and rainy days. At least that is what happen for 2 years in a row. On this special occasion, which is a very big celebration equivalent to Christmas, the finns will party with beers, dance, bonfire. And everything is close. i meant everything… supermarket, limited public transport

Samba Carnival@Helsinki

On summer time, there is lots of events and festival going on. One of my favourites are this Samba Carnival where different Samba Schools around Finland will come and gather for a competition and the winner will be crown the best Samba School of the year. Nice! Lots of pretty chics :P

penkkarit päivää

“Penkkarit literally “the pressings of the bench”, is a yearly tradition among Finnish upper secondary school (Finnish: lukio) students. The event is celebrated in the spring of their final, usually third, year as the final day of school, before the start of the matriculation exams.”, quoted from Wikipedia :)

This year I have a chance to watch it myself as the tracks that occuppied by the Lukio students passby Bulevardi (the street my office located at)… it was worth waiting although is freezing outside to see long q of trucks loaded with high school student dressed up in different themes, throwing candies to the public.

CMX gig

Finnish-Malaysia Culture Night

Pakintalo was the venue for Finish-Malaysia Culture night. It was the 2nd older house in Helsinki; builded in 1700. It gave me much feel like rumah kampung :P Quite homely feel. It was nice to finally met some Malaysian people. Among that present was Chinese, Malay… no Indian at all. I was a bit shock…hehe…but we have Indian dance performance. Where is all the Indian hiding… anyway, the food was great too. Got to ayam rendang… but have to say it was not enough spice :P I have to try making this dishes one day. Has to be good…whee…
Good way to spend the Sunday :D

Rock, Rythm, Love

It was the Night of the Arts again… last year I was here too… but this year things get a bit rocky :D back to classic rock 1968 just in front of Senate Square. I was standing quite at the front line and believe me the audio will make you deaf. But thank god I had my earplug with me… I survived that night :P

I’m not a classic rock fan but somehow one song grab my attention the most. My favourite song of the day… Janis Joplin- Piece of my heart
