Grand Bahamas
Family trip! A weekend trip to Bahamas! Whatever it is called, it was fun fun fun trip! For the first time in my adulthood, me and mum is going on a vacation far far away from home. Lots of memories especially on the beach and water dipping (like mother, like daughter – we can’t swim), underwater photo taking which is hilarious and salty! It is simply the best memories of us together.
We took DiscoveryCruise which takes 5 hours to Grand Bahamas. Like all other cruise it is all inclusive. Which means free alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, buffet breakfast and dinner. Wasn’t a 5 star cruise (maybe 2 star). For only $220 pp includes cruise transportation and 2 nights hotel stay, nothing beats the price.
When we arrived to Freeport Harbour, we took a taxi (so it claims to be but it is the most crappy mini van). Uncle Jean almost fall off from the van because surprisingly there is no seat belt and the side door is malfunctioning (auto open). Thank God, Uncle Jean was a wise man not to lean on the door. The door opens for 3 times during the entire journey which took approx 30mins.
We were welcome by the nice cosy room in Pelican Bay which has a balcony. Sweet! It overlook the pool and bay – view is not perfect as it was blocked by some palm tree but not bad. After short rest, we head to eat at Lucayan Marketplace (the most happening spot in Grand Bahamas for its food and entertainment + stores). Head out to Lucaya Beach & live entertainment at the evening.
The Golden Rock beach is the best beach ever that I have seen. Very unique with tiger strips alike sandbar. It is absolutely private and secluded just like all the review said. Coincidently we were there at 1pm and it was low tide which review the underwater sandbar. That would explain why Matias (the first to explore the beach) said “You will be surprise when you walk on the sand”. Is wet!
There is a few of death branches that creates a prefect pictorial view. The is the outcome of 2005 hurricane. Mum and I was just busy taking lots of pictures around the beach. Some are funny but mostly hilarious. Loving the moments.
On the last day we went to Paradise Cove for snorkeling – all of us. But unfortunately, the weather is not promising – it rains on and off. The ocean current is too strong for Matias & I to venture further to the real paradise of fishes and coral. As we can’t make our way past the 3 rocks to the deeper reef. Snift. But I do bring back a memory to remember forever. I was careless enough to drift by the current and brushed pass the fire coral, leaving a visible burning mark alike on my left thigh. It feels like bee sting at the beginning and itchy when is healing. Mum and Uncle Jean does snorkel despite their poor vision without glasses. Although they didn’t manage to go far enough and see any fishes or coral but I did capture some video clips using the Kodak PlaySport which prove to be excellent HD waterproof camcorder / 5MP camera. Budget for it’s pricing and excellent for the quality.
On the way back to Fort Lauderdale, Florida – we are entertained by nature most amazing thunder show. Far far away, we could spot the thunder lighting sparks creating firework against the dark canvas of sky & ocean. At another side, the moon is casting bright light reflected on the ocean – the view is magical.
Overall, the trip is 7/10. Minus points for bad weather on snorkeling and long cruise traveling. Plus points for best beach – Golden Rock Beach & family spending time together.
GulfStream – Casino + Horse Racing

Visited GulfStream today where it is the center of Casino and Horse Racing. I was flattered because the Security guy stopped me & asked for my ID. I felt under 21 years old again. Whee!!! Got my Lucky Club Player card for the casino and my new card is not working for no reason. At the 4th time of trying it works. Guess I am not lucky today and I even joke with the Personal that I should change my name on the card. Each new member will have $15 credit on the card & I lose it all
I was never lucky in gambling. Even thought I was wearing new clothes it doesn’t bring me to winning jackpot. Should have worn red undergarments as it bring luck in gamble – a chinese saying.
Head out to watch the horse racing & got 4 hats (for everyone) – Florida Derby for only $1 each from a booklet which contains coupon to get FREE HAT today only. Good deal. Nice souvenir. My first time watching horse racing live. Interesting but not as exciting as I expected – maybe I was not betting. I don’t know how to. Watched 2 races and N0.3 & No.5 is the winning horse.
Sunshine State – Florida
Finally, I can go out without my coat + hat + gloves. Feeling light like bird. Breezy air. Back to home in Miramar & this time I have my own bedroom ^^. Papaya harvesting the next morning. Uncle J* and mum enjoying our first meal since landing.

Have been shopping for 2 days & is time to take it slow
or soon I will get bankrupt. Sales are crazy here. Went to JC Penny – Red Zone Clearance and it has 80% OFF. My favorite store is Forever 21 & Strawberry. Amazon too is a place for good deal purchase. Brought my 1st waterproof camcorder + camera – Kodak PlaySport for only $100 comes with extra battery. And other stuff like memory card, extra battery, New Trend battery for my iPhone, drawing pen.
On 27th March, we went to Las Olas to celebrate Fort Lauderdale 100th years old birthday. Music plays on the background, crowd roaming for food, super cool American cars out for exhibition. Good entertainment. Got a piece of a huge Birthday cake but no luck on the T-shirt. Saw a grandma walking on street with her handmade T-shirt. Guess she don’t care for one official T-shirt.
NYC

Finally, after a “not so much holiday” for Christmas, I started my summer holiday way ahead the others for 2 months! Overjoy! I have been saving my “old holidays” from previous years just for this occasion. First stop as usual to the States is to the Big Apple.

This time I “tumpang” Dhasyat’s place. Had great time hanging out with her my 13 years and still counting good friend. Memories of what we have been together in secondary school, good girl in class, crazy girl in Softball practice, adventure girl in Ranger, pure hangout and “the accident” when the car crash while we are on a road trip with our oversea Ranger friend. No one was badly injured. Still fresh in memory, Dhasyat was telling me she is going to die…. i think she have some window glass in her hand (small injury) and I was comforting her. We have gone through lots of things during our grow up and I really treasure our friendship
I purposely blur the pic of us because Dhasyat will kill me if she finds out
“Even now all of us have our own path to go, our own dreams to chase, our goal to fulfill but I know somewhere in my big heart we will always be there for each other”
Back to the trip, on the day I leave, it was snowing a bit & the airport bus was 10mins late (as usual). Almost wanted to call a cab. But I made it to the airport & my circular knitting needles made it through the security check point. Was afraid it will not make it because A* was warning me about how her’s was not allow to the carry on bag. Did some goggling and it seems that plastic and wooden knitting needles are allowed but not the metallic ones. I was trying to finish up the second socks for Uncle J*. End up the whole 14 hrs flight (plus transit waiting time) I only manage to knit the ankle part.
From Helsinki – London, my seatmate he is a down syndrome boy (there is a group of them on field trip). As usual I always book a window seat & he was upset about it. At first I don’t realize he is down syndrome but through the flight he was making weird noises & constantly going over my comfort zone. At last I offer to change seats with him. Much comfort… When I get to the UK border, I wish I am an EU citizen. The line for non-EU passport is so so so longggggggg…. OMG. I was in line for 1.5hrs. And I found something interesting to do is watching people around, observing their act & guessing which nationalities they are. Quite fun & mostly they are Pakistanis (maybe because of the flight connection).
Flight London – JFK, New York, took about 8 hrs and is a pleasant flight, seating with a young couple. This time the US border is not too long queue. 30mins in line. When the officer ask me why am I here. I say “I am tired of the long winter”
which is true. But my main purpose is to visit my beloved mum. Sis V* and Dhasyat picked me up from airport – so nice of them.
1st Day – Central Park with Dhasyat & S*, it was sunny day but a bit windy and I was complaining
I was questioned if I came from Helsinki the cold. My excuse is I am under dress
Usually I will wrap myself warm when heading out. Anyway, it was nice park and even though the trees are naked but I can imagine when it is fully blossom with flowers and green fresh leaves. Adding to my Statues collection is the “Shaking Head Statue of Liberty”.
2nd Day – Visited MoMa and Lego store. Got myself “Apple Lego” which is cool & my must have item and 2 key chains from Star wars character.
Again I was trapped in queue. MoMa has a long queue outside the building to buy tickets even is raining! Should have purchase online! 30mins later I got my ticket & have to in queue again to check in the bag. Which I though I have to check in because the sign say so. I just wasted my 30mins in life for queue just end up not getting my bag check in because is too small for it. WTF!!! SO, I drag my heavy “small” bag around the art gallery & totally it ruin my mood. But soon, I found myself indulgence in the magic of art. The gallery is not big… just 5 floors and I missed the 5th floor which Dhasyat claim it has exhibition of naked people & there is the highlight of MoMA – people pay money to see nude body & she keep teasing me for that. I was too tired and skipped it. Later I found out it used to have naked people a year ago & not anymore – A couple of naked ppl standing at a narrow hallway & visitor have to squeeze themselves passing through the tiny space. Weird. And reason why they are not there anymore is because there is lots of issue about visitor accidentally touched the naked, sexual arose & etc… So, at the end I didn’t miss too much of the highlight
3rd day – Shopping & Dinner at Penang Restaurant. Met up with 2 IMU medical student whom happen to do practice here. Was nice to get the Malaysian atmosphere. Ordered Beef Rendang and it wasn’t as good as I expected. I always have high hopes on food but end up So-So. We had snack at this cool place called Pret. Nicely decorated with food art photography. Inspired!
4rd & 5th day – China Town & Flushing Mini China Town. Met up with my beloved mum at Grand Central Station. It was so beautiful inside with sky mural of horoscope & big lights like in palace. Family reunion with Aunty A* after 5 years. Had duck & bbq pork as dinner. Yummy. The weather is bad – it was snowing slate. 3 of us was holding arms and slowly crossing the streets. Is the moment. Next day, we went crazy shopping for food. Found my favourite Curry Chicken paste (Malaysian) & other stuff. We got so many stuff that Mum have to get another carry-on luggage.
Head to the airport & I can’t believe as an airport driver (whom will be meeting lots of foreigner & ppl that will ask for directions) can be so unresponsive & rude to passenger. Ask him question and he never answer or only once. Poor guy – he must hate his job so much. Need to check in our luggage as it has paste (usually I don’t like checking-in because I had bad experience with airline losing my bag) but surprisingly Jetblue handle luggage efficiently. As we arrived, it takes only few minutes and we got our 2 bags. Sweet! Highly recommend Jetblue as the 1st check in bag is free & it has spacious seating space (3″ more than normal flight) with flight entertainment (bring own headset as it cost $2 for one crappy headset). Good thing we check in our luggage as there is not enough space in the upper deck in flight. I started to connect dots after what Sis V* says – everything happen for a reason. And while queue for boarding there is a doc standing behind me & I was thinking something might happen that’s why we have a doc on-board. But nothing happens and we had a smooth flight.
Greet by the warm breeze of air… I am officially in Sunshine State – Florida ^^
Tallinn
It was Juhannus weekend! Again Friday is off day
(Last Friday was off from office as it was Luxus Summer Outing). For a change Matias and I was not on a trip out of Finland. Instead I have Julia with me! Yeah! Girl’s fun weekend. This is my 2nd time to Tallinn (the 1st time with host family). Still it is a lovely small city to walk around and lot’s of woolen handicraft. Food was cheap but poor customer service
(sorry!). Great companion of local friends. Saw 2 wedding and a wedding photo shooting (not sure if is real or commercial ad) And we stayed in Hotel City for only 14€/person! The cheapest I had in Europe so far!
Lomography @ Iceland
At last I get to bring my Fisheye Lomography camera for traveling. This time I am going to try cross processing with a slide film. Is a trial and error process. I was not very happy with the end result. It has no contrast or vibrating colors like the photos I saw online which claimed to cross process as well. So what is cross processing? Is is the procedure of deliberately processing film in a chemical solution intended for a different type of film. Color cross processed photographs are often characterized by unnatural colors and high contrast. I guess I will just cross process it digitally using Photoshop
Cheaper
Bye2 Iceland
After a week in Iceland, we are ready to go home. We were disapointed for visiting the Viking Village as we were a bit too early. Even thought the event is suppose to start today and run for a week but they din’t mention it will only start at 5pm on the 1st day! And we were there at 11am. So, we end up walking around the lave field village but nothing could WOW us anymore as we have seen the best nature of Iceland during the past 4 days.
We continue to the Blue Lagoon which is located in the middle of nowhere between Keflavik Airport and Reykjavik. Perfect trap for tourist. We heard from Jane our Go Travel Iceland tour guide that the Blue Lagoon was actually a fail project. They tried to build a Geothermal Station but in the middle of the project they discover something in the ground that make the entire project to stop. Something like that. Don’t really remember but the interesting part is some genius has turn the fail project into a perfect trap for tourist and has now became one of the must visit attraction in Iceland. 28EUR per entry. Imagine how much they earn. Soon, the Iceland crisis will resolve
Well, even is a tourist trap but is a perfect closure. Perfect to end the trip before heading to the airport.
This place use quite a technology. You were given a chip to secure on your hand like a waist band. You can use it to lock your locker and remember the price of your drinks (you need to pay when you leave) where there is a bar in the middle of the lagoon where beers and other drinks are sold. Smart chip. In the lagoon, free silica mud mask is provided in boxes and it has benefits to the skin. Of course we don’t miss it. We got it all over our face
Not sure about the effect
Still look the same
Funny thing happened. We realized there is a huge group of people is given some blue liquid drinks and so we thought it was free drinks or complimentary drinks. So, I went up there and try to grab one. And the guy who is distributing the drinks to the rest of the group looked at me weirdly. I soon understood and said ” Is this a group thing?”. He said ” Of course is a group thing”… ha… I was embarrassed. Soon, we realized they are a group of Surgeon which happened to have a conference in the Blue Lagoon (nice pick!). We happened to knew it because there is a label on the bus that drove them there when we walk around the parking lot waiting for our flybus. Haha…no wonder he knew I am not in the group. I look to young to be a surgeon
well actually too asian to be one of them.
We spent the last night at B&B Guesthouse which is located 5mins drive from/to the Keflavik Airport. Btw, Keflavik Airport was nominated as The Best Europe Airport 2009. Amazing. It is small airport but easy to navigate around the airport. B&B Guesthouse is furnised like a mini hotel. There is lots of beautiful scenery pic hang on the wall. It feels like walking in a gallery. Spacious modern bathrooms at common area. And free pick up/drop to the airport at any time! Small modern room with 2 single bed but is ok because is clean.
Early flight at 7.55am. Take off was delayed because the pilot’s seat belt doesn’t work and there is a possibility of changing plane (said the flight announcement)… so funny. After 30mins finally the problem solved. Pleasant journey. Was a bit bumpy landing – probably too windy. Seems like the wind had followed us back from Iceland to Helsinki. During the flight, lot’s of nice scenery outside the window. As if we were flying to Venus. So pale blue. Love it! Iceland we will be back for sure
Iceland a country you never want to miss
South Iceland – Finalli
We are determine to get to Jokulsarlon today. Because lack of planning, we need to get back and forth from Reykjavik to South Iceland. So, we end up driving along the same route that we have been yesterday but in full speed and non-stop, moving forward to our final destination. Why Jokulsarlon? Is the most amazing glacier lake that we always wanted to see – the mother nature that we have not experience before. And no where else than Iceland & a few other places. Driving was long, we arrive there at 8.30pm and we started at 12noon. But it should be only 350km from Reykjavik. Guess we have too much stop in between attractions.
First, we get to the next waterfall – Skógafoss (width: 25m and height: 60m. People can go as close as they dare to. Due to the amount of spray the waterfall consistently produces, a single or double rainbow is normally visible on sunny days. According to legend, the first Viking settler in the area, Þrasi Þórólfsson, buried a treasure in a cave behind the waterfall. A local boy found the chest years later, but was only able to grasp the ring on the side of the chest before it disappeared again.
And we arrived at Skatefell National Park at 7pm – too late for some easy hiking to get a close look of the glacier & it was windy. Sad. but we will be back hopefully. And with better planning next time
It was a windy day. As we travel closer to the volcano, there is lots of volcano ash around. We drove to a point where the ash was squiring up dancing in the air and traveling on the surface of the road. Like going from left corner to right corner of the road. Unbelievable. We were stunned.
And this marked the end of my driving journey. Roughly around 1000km in 3 days! Unbelievable. More km than in total since I get to Finland. And finally we arrived safely back to guesthouse at 2.30am. Almost fall asleep driving but it was a bit rough as it started to rain 1hr before we reach. But everytime I go out of the car I felt so refresh – is super windy.
South Iceland
Yup… South Iceland… where the recent Eyjafjallajokull volcano erupted … we nicknamed it the “angry volcano”, since it was hard to pronounce the name, in fact most of the Icelandic name is so long that we have difficulty remembering any or saying it right. As we guess there is no way we can spot the volcano from the Ring One Road as we drive along the coast but as we are getting closer we notice that the surrounding is full of black ash/sand. And we knew… we are there. So close yet far.
The South Coast is mostly flat and the driving scenery is not as beautiful as in Snaefellsnes Peninsular. Lots of lava field. Guess this is “one upon a time” the most active volcano area. There is a lot of attractions along the coast, so we decided to spent 2 days driving around. 1st day we take it easy just driving to the Geothermal village – Hverageroi and did 2hrs hiking & soak in the hot spring surrounded by beautiful nature. It was amazing and feels so close to the mother nature. BOND. Is easy hike but I got a bit off track on the way back & got all miserable when my shoe got wet in the mud. I was a bit annoyed for having to take off and on several time my stocking and shoe to cross the little river. Not liking the feel of dry and wet repetitively. But overall, is a good experience even for us amateur hikers. Matias with his sneakers
More “foss” means waterfall in Icelandic along the coast. Our last stop for the day is ” Seljalandsfoss which is one of Icelands most beautiful waterfalls. It´s not the highest or mightiest but the fact that you can walk behind it makes it special. It is clearly visible from Icelands main ring road, first as a distant small white streak but grows ever larger as you approach the beautiful Eyjafjallajökull glacier, from which the river flows from.”, quote from Orvaratli. And I am totally agree with him. In fact, we were welcome by 2 helicopter when we just arrived. Our guess is they came from the nearby tour around the Eyjafjallajökull volcano, maybe peeking if it is still erupting
Snaefellsness Peninsula, West Iceland
Once drive out of Reykjavik and enter the road to Snaefellsness Peninsula we were amaze by the beautiful sceneries along the Ring One Road. It is so unreal as if someone has painted it. Lovely color palette. During the driving trip we have stop at numerous places – sometimes just sudden pull over at the side of the road to take pictures. Good that there is not many driver along the road. At first I was a bit nervous with the idea of driving in Iceland especially after I read lots of articles about how dangerous it is to drive in the wild nature Iceland. But I was wrong. Driving along the Ring One road was indeed very comfortable as the road are in good conditions. Although it might be a bit tricky sometime to change speed from 90km/hr to 50km/hr in a short distance when entering the city. Got flash several times by the speed monitor – hopefully is not a penalty ticket
And there is this narrow bridge (often at the river) that allows only one car to go at a time. So, have to be really careful & alert.
It took us almost a full day to drive around. We got a bit frustrated because we could not get closer to the Snæfellsjökul glaicer which was made famous by Jules Verne in the book, “Journey to the Center of the Earth” as the point of entry to the Earth’s core. Well, we just rent a mini red Toyota for 3 days and since all the highlands in Iceland requires 4×4 wheels, is almost impossible/ against the law for us to drive up there. And since the sky was still hazed from the volcano, we can only manage to catch a glimpse of it from far. Anyway, the entire journey was eyes opening. Saw more waterfalls which have vibrating blue color, interesting rocks cut in sharp edges during the Ice Age, lots of horse & sheeps, lava field village, awesome cave full of birds – it actually feels like the Dinosaur Age when we are standing in front and heal our head up with all the birds flying on top of us & the cave right in front of us. Thank God the birds din’t poop on us
The Golden Circle, Iceland
The “must-see” attraction of Iceland where tourist are able to experience the power of nature – waterfall, geysir, green national park. We decide to get a tour instead of driving for this one as it was almost the same price besides we get more tour info. We picked Go travel Iceland as it was kinda of the cheapest 8900ISK and it has really good rating from TripAdvisor. Thanks to Evelyn that helped us to arranged everything from tour booking to car renting and even help us to wash our dirty laundry. Good day out of the misty city and enter to the nature. Weather was perfect for the outing.
Gulfoss, the largest waterfall in Iceland was amazing. It feels almost like Victoria fall (I think as I haven’t been there). When you stand on top of the cliff overseeing the entire waterfall below your feet, it feels like you are on top of the world. Shame there is no rainbow cast. Watch the video to see how magnification the waterfall was.
Geysir geothermal area, the place was like in Mars. Pools of mud bubble, geysers explode and weird looking rocks and the mixture of the hot water and rock makes it looks almost looks like an ugly marble. This is our favourite spot of the there. The Strokkur which erupts every 5-15 mins is a little brother to Geysir – which has stopped erupting, which is kind of sad as its eruptions where much more spectacular than of Strokkur.
Pingvellir National Park the evergreen & lots of water filled rifts with crystal clear water perfect for scuba diving. Funny fact is people actually throw lots of coins in those rifts and it form a rather interesting and shining effect to the rifts. Pretty awesome actually.
The entire trip was fun overall. Rate 8 out of 10. Probably I was expecting more tour guide on the location spot rather then the tour guide disappearing all the time once she drop us there. But she does provide random general info about Iceland during the road trip and stop at some interesting attraction along the way like the canyon volcano & blue waterfall & the Geothermal station.
Reykjavik, Iceland
Finally, Iceland here we come! But the beginning didn’t go smoothly. The always punctual Finnish transportation let us down on our most crucial moment. Thinking that we were early waiting at the bus stop (15 mins earlier) but the bus never came… 5 min pass by… 10 mins… OMG… it will never come and finally we made decision to take another bus (required 1 transfer & it took 1hr) and rush to the bus stop, just in time. Thinking that things will not go wrong… but yet we were again wrong… the 2nd airport bus was late too – for 10 mins… thinking that we are screwed and will never make it to the flight – the bus 615 appears packed with passengers. We barely fits in. This reminded us of our Rome trip. One 1st May, we were transport in Sardine condition. We finally made it to the airport safe & sound, 40 mins before the flight departure. Again, the security line was super long… took us 15 mins in queue. Good that we always online check in – it at least save us some time with all the rush. We have to literally run to the boarding gate 12 which located far behind the hall. 15 mins before flight departure… long line for boarding. Yes, we made it… we are not the last one to boarding nor does our name appear in the boarding announcement.
The journey took 3hr 20mins, and there is on board entertainment in front of each seats. Brilliant idea with the Icelandair is the airplane acts like a big canvas to educate passengers about the Icelandic language. Pleasant ride. A bit of bumpy ride when arriving near to the coast – guess it too windy. From above, Iceland actually looks like some planet from Mars. The ground texture is too rocky and sandy.
The plan was followed. We get to the BSI terminal by flybus and Evelyn picked us up to the Baldursbra Guesthouse. The room Lyng looks exactly like the photos I saw in the TripAdvisor – the only few pictures available online. Basic room with basin. Very Icelandic feel with old wooden furnitures. Comfy bed. A bit noisy as the road is right beside the window.
1st impression of Reykjavik. Small town – smaller then Jyväskylä. And the downtown is easy accessible by foot. Not much modern buildings. Quite old town. And who said is the most beautiful capital in the world? Haha… probably only one – the lady we meet at the Leppävaara dog park. But we are waiting for the true Iceland trip. The geysir, volcano, hot spring that sets it apart from other countries and make it so unique.
Went to Fish and Chip for our first meal. A self service bistro – tiny but with good music. It was good. Probably because we are super hungry. For 14e, I was full. The fish basically tasted almost the same although they have 3 varieties – Cod, Haddock fish, Wolf fish. Maybe because of the cooking method. All are fried. And we can pick our own dipping sauce, potatoes, salad.
Walked around the town. End up at the Hallgrimskirkja church. It looks really cool in the pics but in reality it was not as great. Very minimalistic from inside out. Matias hates the texture – “it looks cheap with the uneven surface but they have a cool gate – Gate to hell”. And I was wondering why there is no black glossy church. It would be so cool althought black is often related with funeral and devil.
Slept around 11pm local time. Was exhausted. Dozed…zzz
Day 2, woke up feeling fresh. Breakfast was great & fulfilling. Breads with selection of 3 kinds of cold meat – ham(s), salami. Today was sunny so we decided to be a local and visited the Nautholsvik Geothermal Beach. It has 2 hot pot – one rectangle and another one circular located near the sea. So, one can easily & fast switch between the hot pot and the cold swim in the sea. It has a similar concept as sauna. I chicken out and darn not to swim in the cold sea water while Matias bravely swim – a prove that he is a finn.
Before that we walk to The Pearl (Perlan) – the water tank of the Reykjavik city. The building looks quite modern compared to the old historical looking city. Dinner at Vegamot (sort of our favourite place as the food portion was large and good for the value). Short walk to Solfar Sun Voyager Sculpture – a whale looking metalic installment near the habour. It was believe that the ash from the volcano has cause Reykjavik to look very misty since the day we arrived. And it has continued till the 2nd day as well. And because of that it is impossible to see the mountains surrounding the city clearly.
Speedy trip to London
Some pics at Winter Wonderland on 23th Dec and 8th Jan when we have our flight transit back from KL. Even though is short visit. Not even 2 days in total but is memorable. Was a bit disappointed. This Winter Wonderland was more like a theme park for kids. I have no idea what to expect but maybe some live concert or performance … anyway, it was nice & bright with all the neon lights. Quite beautiful and feels like Alice in the Wonderland… lol
Back to KL
After 2 1/2 years of being a bird without leg flying to Finland, finally I am back to “tanahair ku”. It was great to meet up with families, relatives and friends. After all this is the place I grown up. With only 2 weeks, I don’t get to see everyone but promise will try to do so the next visit. With Matias around, this is not longer just a visit back home but also a travel trip. Without my “cili-padi” (small & cute little kancil), my sis has finally become my driver…whahaha. The must visit spot of course are KLCC, Tin Hau Kong (since Matias love culture stuff), Central Market for some traditional souvenir purchase, Petaling Street (just walk by – hate to bargain
), Low Yat for some cheap computer accessories but unable to find my soundless mouse
Not even Apple Magic Mouse is available and based on the salesman information, the entire world is out of stock. Surely introducing Matias to some of my favourite past time – night market and karaoke
And since is monsoon season, can’t go to more beautiful beaches like Tioman and Redang, so we visited Langkawi for some sunny blue sky holiday. For the 1st time, I went snookering and was surrounded by lots of marine life. Saw baby sharks and long nose fish (don’t know the right terms for it), corals, egg plant and believe me it was awesome
too bad the water get too sandy after 2 hours of snookering. Would love to do it again in Caribbean island the next time! Poor Matias got burn like a red crab
And I burn my skull… just realize when the dead skin peel off… no wonder I feel so much pain for few days after snookering. During the trip to Langkawi, I can fully utilize my submarine fisheye 2 lomo-camera. Finally, I have a chance to test it real underwater
and the pics turn out not so bad after all. Way to go lomo!
And guess what, 6 flights in 2 weeks. Totally break the record. And I am now flight-phobia =.= at least for a few months to come.
christmas approaching
This Christmas I will be spending in KL. Funny as everyone is wishing for a White Christmas, I have instead going for a Sunny Warm Christmas.
Summer break
London – The City of Culture
Paris – The City of Romance
Barcelona – The City of Sunshine
Rome
5 days trip to Rome was enough to overwhelmed. Too much ancient… too much history… too much christianity art… too much scuplture (I got myself a cool mini scuplture)… Despite of being tired for walking the whole day around place of interest, getting packed with lots of tourist, cramped like a sardin in bus/metro especially on 1st and 2nd May, everything else was great
If the Trevi Fountain legend was true (throw coin to guarentee a return to Rome) than I will sure be back to Rome when there is no tourist except us
My rome collections
[Florida]
Beach…here I come!!! The sun goes down pretty fast and usually after 5pm it would be windy. Would need to find new spot for sun bathing after 4pm as the sun starting to set (is winter time anyway). It was nice to be under the sun again after a long dark winter. Now I understand why mum get so tanned after only 4 months in Florida! It is really burning sun! Almost like Malaysia weather… hehe. Collected a lot of sea shells (thanks to mum!) but I just took a few unique shells home (trying to save space in hand luggage)
Meanwhile, Miami Downtown was just like CSI Miami
Skyscraper along the river bank. Something different…different scenery than in European country. Everyone seems to own a motorboat or even a sporty speed boat… how I wish I own one too…hehe
A trip with Water Taxi for only USD13 whole day trip is totally value for money. The boat takes passenger from a total of 13 stops. Each stops have its own Point of interest. Along the trip, we passby the houses of rich people along the river bank. Houses of millions dollar and expensive boats. I forgot whose house I passby but they are famous rich people’s houses… (maybe I will be one of them)…lol
NYC Part 2
Finally, I reached Helsinki, still in one piece, after 3 transits… Dragging my hand luggage was really a workout. I had a great shopping filled trip, and the heavy bags as proofs of it ![]()
Well spent Christmas holiday in NYC and Fort Lauderale, Florida (neighbour of Miami)
3 days in NYC was not enough but I do see a lot and well spent days. Usual routine is out from noon till night… ‘letih’ man
New Yorker
It is Christmas Eve and ho ho ho Merry Christmas. Im spending almost whole day in the airport, checking in and checking out, going thru security check.
Totally contradict. UK security check is so strict. Even the shoes you are wearing required scanning!! And body check are really body check
Entering US boarder is good if you are a US citizenship. The queque for non-citizenship is just ridiculously long. And you would hv to fill in forms for both security check-in and custom check-in form while you are in flight and hand it over when go thru security check enterign US boarder… =.=
But after all it was a pleasent journey dispict the connection flight waiting… I would prefer going on direct flight next time if I have the money
In airport I can see quite a row of Japanese girls
Fashionable as always. But where is all the Japanese guys?
Maybe the next time travel destination should be Japan. Would be cool
Have always wanted to try how fast is the bullet train.

The sun rise was amazingly beautiful across the clouds from the flight window.

Finally the sun rise

1st stop – Canal Street a.k.a Chinatown

Yummy…seafood… ridiculous big… US size…hehe

The best Malaysia Restaurant in town!

Best ‘sambal belacan’ !

Fried Kway Teow

Hou Chean (Eagg with cram)

Asam Laksa
Tallinna, Estonia

“Welcome to Tallinna”, said Mr. Seagull

Babu is in action again
Is time to be away from home and go for travel. Babu is always invited to join me whenever I go…lol… Well, he is really useful because I can use it to cover my ears for noise filtering when I sleep and cover my eyes when the sun rise
This time, we are off to Estonia (is a country in Northern Europe in the Baltic region.) It tooks only 3 hrs to go by ship cruise from Helsinki. And so we depart and spent a night in ship and the next morning we have a few hours to walk around at Tallinna (the capital of Estonia) before we depart home to Helsinki. It was a smooth ride in Baltic Princess ship. I was dizzy a bit because the ship was shaking a bit but had a good night sleep till 530am! It was so so so hot in the room… like in a sauna. And the sun was direct hit thru the window into the room. Double worst! Can’t stand no more at 7am and off we went to breakfast buffet… so full
and here we come Tallinna.

Next have to ride on this Celebrity X cruise ship!… Each room has its own balcony to sunbath and a open air swimming pool on the upper dock!…cool

Very good atmosphere of Medival feel. Even the waiter was dress up in oldies uniform.

Old and new…all in ONE…McDonald welcome u

Song Festival Ground where everyone gather here every 5 years to sing together. The next will be held in year 2009. Maybe I should visit again by than… just to feel the “people mountain people sea”
Food Feast in Portugal

This is the famous Portugal Tart. The outlook is exactly same like the one we had in Malaysia. But the original Portugal Tart from Portugal is much sweeter. It tasted almost like vanila and not egg like the one in Malaysia. Come to think about it Portugal has once conquered Malaysia. No wonder we had some similar food
This looks like a giant egg tart but frankly our chinese egg tart is much more yummier. Probably because is more fresh and has a crispy crunch on the outter layer.
This is super sweet! Being a sweet person myself, trust me this sweetness is much more than one normal person could bare. I actually took a bite and throw the rest
But I have to admit it looks really attractive especially after a hot long walk around the city of Lisbon.

This yummy piece is made from coconut and egg. Really good!

I fall in love with this cheese! Not a very strong taste of milky cheese but more towards mild egg taste.

My 1st night dinner out in Ericeria
Coming to a fishing village of course I would order something seafood related. This grilled octopus with baby potatoes are good! The baby potatoes was the best that I have ever tasted. I don’t know potatoes can be that good
No wonder western people replace rice with potatoes. Although I still prefer the fried “sotong” with chilie in Malaysia
But guess being here abroad, it was extremely hard to find something as spicy as in Malaysia. Unless, I cook myself but still Asian market here is still lacking some of the original spices in Malaysia like “ikan bilis”, “sambal belacan”… gosh, I miss “nasi lemak”!

Rice with shrimps in curry paste…

seafood salad…

grilled codfish with potatoes…
Discovering Ocean @ Portugal (Part II – Oceanário de Lisboa)

I have been to KLCC Aquarium, Malaysia but being at the Europe’s biggest oceanarium in Lisboa was definetly unforgetable. Nice design of buildings with the Portugal well known tile design decorating all over the walls. Cool! I want my bathroom to be decorated with those tiles

And for sure the most unforgetable one is the ocean “Sunfish” which is the heaviest known bony fish in the world. It was weird looking fish ( I feel it looks like mushroom skinned) and as you can see from the picture below, you have to agree with me

Some pictures of the most interesting sea creature

Seahorse that looks like the plants undersea to confuse their predator. Smart!

Another smart one!

These fishes is funny as they loves human so much. As you can see from above they tend to crowded around me. Please dont eat me

It was a crowded day as a lot of school trip was organized to educate the kids

These is only part of what I saw. Too many more
